Malaria. The only areas of concern within South Africa’s borders are the low altitude area’s found to the East of the country in the Zululand and Mpumalanga Province areas. Most of these areas are catagorised as low risk, but it is still recommended that you contact your GP and take a reliable prophylactic to combat Malaria when visiting these areas, especially between October and May.
It is recommended that you make sure that you are up to date with the following, Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Typhoid. While none of these are compulsory for entry into South Africa they remain a personal choice.
There is no Yellow Fever in South Africa It is recommended that you visit only privately run medical institutions. Take out medical travel insurance and make sure it covers the use of private facilities. Should you have a requirement for special prescription drugs then bring written authorisation from your doctor stating your requirements.
